Paths Group Report 2023

The Paths group is a collaborative partnership between Greener Kemnay and Positive Steps Kemnay. It aims to improve and promote the use of the existing paths network in and around Kemnay.

This year we have worked to maintain the link path at Dalmadilly Ponds, that was created by this group some years ago.

During Kemfest we led a walk around the Kemnay Steens to maintain interest in the artworks and to encourage walking.

The group has spent some time this year reflecting on our (considerable) achievements so far and thinking about future directions that we should take. Encouraged by the success of other local paths groups e.g. Torphins, Daviot, we are looking to steer the group in new directions. To that end we recently met with Yvonne MacLeod from Paths for All, to get advice in moving forward. We recognise that we need to consult with the community to find what are the local priorities for paths, and we need to attract new members to take the work forward. We are planning a questionnaire/ consultation and a public meeting early in 2024.

Greener Kemnay Public Art Group was responsible for commissioning the Kemnay Steens artworks in 2020. One of the purposes of the project was to encourage walking in and around the village, in line with the aims of the Paths group. We have recently been awarded a small grand from Garioch Community Planning Partnership to commission and install two information boards about the Steens. One to be in Kemnay Pleasure Park and the other to be in the carpark at the entrance to Fetternear Estate.
