Energy group

Meeting: Sharing Our Experiences: This was well attended by 30 people, with the meeting starting off with Per Arno explaining what the energy group had been up to and he gave a very interesting account of how our assessors do an assessment of a house. He explained that the first thing the householder needs to work out is what their aim is for the survey i.e. being more comfortable, reducing energy builds, etc Per then went on to tell us about what was involved in the initial energy survey, showed us some measurements needed.

We then heard from Matt Clubb, he is a retrofit architect.  He informed the audience of the steps and roles, explained the cost involved in each step, explained what would take place and the problems that might occur.

We then heard from four people who have either retro-fitted their house or are struggling through the process, this gave the audience a good idea of the highs and lows of the process.

I took away from the very interesting evening, retro-fitting your house to make it totally energy efficient, is not to be taken lightly, it involves a lot of upheaval and requires quite a lot of money. I also came to the conclusion that it is worth having a basic survey of heat loss done to your house, this would allow you to know where there might be simple things you can do to save energy or if you have larger problems.

Thank you to the energy group for organising such an interesting meeting.

Community Garden

Open event: We would love to see you at the Community Garden on Saturday 11th May, from 10 to 2. There is a lot happening, from trying your hand in Boules, to learning about flight, to the bee group and Wildlife explorers and we will be entertained by the Kemnay Ukulele Group. The Barbecue will be lit, why don’t you use it to cook your lunch.

Several of our volunteers have downloaded the free Merlin app to help with the identification of birdsong and in theory if they stay still long enough to help decide what species they are when silent.

Boules: Boules are back on Tuesday at 6.45pm at the Community Garden, no experience needed and tuition given by Kemnay’s representative on the Scotland team Derek. You can sign up to the Boules WhatsApp group to get games outside of Tuesday evening.
