Apologies: I would like to set the record straight, in last month’s Bulletin 2/25, I was talking about the state of the paths and I should have mentions that the Bremner Way and Dalmadilly link paths were constructed through the joint Paths Group of members from Positive Steps Kemnay and Greener Kemnay. I would like to apologise for this error and any stress it caused.
Doing a heat survey: I choose this time of the year to do a heat survey of my house, as it is cold outside which allows me to see where the cold is coming into my home and heat loss. This is a waste of energy and not good for the planet and also costs me money.
I used the Greener Kemnay Thermal Imaging Camera which is not difficult to use in its basic settings. I wanted to see where the cold spots were and workout if there was anything I could do about them.
I had to wait until it was a cold night to do the survey and I had the time to do it (it took less time than I initially thought). Once the camera is switched on, the screen is showing you a heat image of whatever you are pointing at and this is done in a colour scale. The lighter the colour, the warmer it is, with the dark colours being the ones that I was interested in. You need to make sure there are no heat sources in the area you are surveying, this will not give you a good reading, these are things like lights and power adapters.
I found where the insulation had failed and I am now looking at ways that I can fix it. Some of which will be too expensive but there is stuff that I can sort with ease.
Community Garden
Achievements over last month: The garden is looking really good, with its new coating of wood chips around the raised beds, a lot of weeding has taken place and trimming back the trees and bushes. We also managed to clear an area to plant our three oak trees. The encroaching nettles have been subdued and the polyanthus released from the blanket of crocosmia leaves.
Activity Day: this is on the 8th March at 10am for about 3 hours, please give us as much time as you can spare and bring a hot drink for the break. We want to repair the fence, clear along the fence and create a dead hedge and also re-planting the wild flower meadow we obtained from Gordon House.
May Event Day: 10th May – we are teaming up with KemFest, with the launch of Mental Health Week, and celebrating the garden in Wellness Month. Nature and Biodiversity is the theme for It’s Your Neighbourhood so there is the tie in for harmony in humans, plants, insects and animals. We are planning to have a guided bird song walk, bubble show for all age kids, boules and food. We would welcome other attractions and groups showcasing their work. Please put this date in your diary.
