Kath Morrison : I am very sad to report that Kath has passed away on Sunday 28th July after a very short illness. For those who don’t know her, she joined Greener Kemnay from its inception, becoming a trustee and was involved in the setting up of the community garden. She stepped back from being a trustee to look after her mother and spend more time with the grandchildren but continued to support the gardens during the activity days and the open day.

Activities Day: This month we are having our Activities Day on 10th August from 10 to 2, please come along and give as much time you could spare. We had a good turnout last month, this enabled us to renew the bark around the raised beds nearest the Steen and this month we like to do the same around the other raised beds. We would also want to try to remove the bind weed that is encroaching on to the site and also cut the willow that is touching the poly tunnel.
Fruit for the picking: Please come and help yourself to the fruit, there may still be some gooseberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants. There are plenty of elderberries for syrups, wines or adding to other fruits. The insects must have been conserving their energy when the plums were in blossom as there are no plums this year. We will have brambles, apples and crabapples in September/October.
Raised bed users: To all who have one of the raised beds in the Gardens, we renewed the bark around your raised bed and could you find time to help us by weeding around your plot please.
Celebration of the garden: We are planning a get together on the September activity day to celebrate this year in the garden. We like to invite everyone involved with the Community Garden, bring your family and friends for a get together at the gardens. This will be on 14th September from 10 to 2, the barbecue will be lit if you would like to cook. Enjoy the garden.
